Orélien Biet – Land Art Workshop

For one week in our cultural meadow, children ages 6 to 12, accompanied by their families, are invited to experience a unique creative adventure. Together, young and old will explore the surrounding nature to imagine and create a collective artwork that is ephemeral and alive. Through the practice of land art, everyone will be invited to observe, touch, assemble, and transform natural elements—leaves, branches, stones—to give shape to a shared creation, sensitive and inspired by the place.

In this workshop, young people will be involved in every stage of the project: site observation, respectful gathering of materials, artistic design, and creation of the work. This experience will foster teamwork, creative expression, respect for the environment, and a sense of belonging to their territory. This land art piece will take the form of a natural portal created with the participation of young people from the community. Made from materials gathered on site—branches, stones, leaves, and bark—it will integrate harmoniously into the landscape while highlighting the richness of the territory. Ephemeral by nature, the portal will evolve over time under the effects of wind, rain, and the seasons. This transformation will remind us that nature is in constant evolution and that art can exist in harmony. The portal will symbolize the passage between everyday space and a place of contemplation, creativity, and connection with our environment. Its structure will be made of intertwined branches forming a harmonious arch, while decorative patterns created with stones, leaves, and flowers will enrich the whole. The colors, textures, and shapes of the materials will reflect the identity of the place and the seasons.

This intergenerational workshop invites children and elders to create together a collective work inspired by the territory. The youngest are first called upon to explore the surroundings, observe the forest, and carefully gather natural elements already fallen to the ground: leaves, seeds, bark, twigs, or other treasures encountered along their path. From these materials, participants then craft paper beads containing short messages, wishes, memories, or fragments of stories hidden inside. The making process becomes a meeting space where elders are invited to share their stories, their memories of the territory, and the experiences that have marked their lives. Children thus discover a living heritage transmitted through words and exchange. The beads created are then assembled into light suspensions incorporating the gathered materials. Installed in the trees, they compose an ephemeral intervention that bears witness to the participants’ passage and the bonds woven between them. Through the gesture of gathering, making, telling, and suspending, the workshop celebrates curiosity, listening, and transmission, while offering an accessible artistic experience where nature becomes at once material, memory, and meeting place.
