Acting for Climate Montréal will create a short site-specific piece, inspired by a magnificent tree in our cultural park. The circus troupe has made it its mission to create socially and environmentally committed shows, applying new eco-responsible creation and touring standards.
Biography
Founded in 2019 by Agathe Bisserier, Nathan Biggs-Penton, and Adrien Malette-Chénier, the company now includes a new member, Samuelle McGowan-Richer. The company currently has two shows on tour: “Branché,” an outdoor circus show combining group acrobatic lifts and dance, and Agathe and Adrien’s show “N.Ormes,” a tender and provocative performance that leads the audience to question their own preconceptions and challenges gender norms. These shows have been performed over a hundred times. Acting for Climate Montréal has four shows in development: “Qu’est-ce que j’en ferais,” “Réciproque,” “TARTAR,” and “À la dérive.” These shows address notions of ownership, public spaces, interdependence, the fear of loss, and rituals of connection. Through committed and deeply human performances, awareness workshops, professional conferences, and partnerships with environmental and social science doctors and researchers, the company is engaged on all fronts.
Approach
The company’s goal is to inspire spectators and artists to take action for a sustainable future. Far more than just the notion of carbon neutrality, for us, sustainability includes both the environment and our human relationships, our ways of communicating, daily workload, and other environmental and social issues of our time.
