Following the success of the documentary play Run de lait, Justin Laramée and his colleague Benoît Côté are now working on Berlingot, a family version of their moving investigation into local agriculture, focusing primarily on dairy production, Quebec’s largest agri-food sector. This will include a presentation and discussion about adapting the show. A conversation will also take place around Temps de cochon and Front de bœuf, the company’s upcoming projects.

Biography

Justin Laramée has participated in over fifty plays since graduating from the Conservatoire de Montréal in 2003. As an actor, he has appeared in L’Iliade (Théâtre Denise-Pelletier), 1984 (Trident), La campagne (Prospero), Cérémonial (Espace Go), and Noir (Quat’sous), among others. At Duceppe, he was part of the cast of the play Oslo in 2018. As an author, he is credited with Run de lait (Trident, La Licorne), Éloges de la fuite (La Licorne), and Transmissions (La Licorne), for which he won the Prix Gratien-Gélinas. As a director, he is behind Nous irons cirer nos canons numériques dans un sweatshop portugais (Aux Écuries) and SEEKER (CTD’A). He is the editorial director of the ‘scène’ collection at SOMME TOUTE and the artistic and general director of VA! arts vivants.

Approach

In 2016, Justin began his documentary theater approach with an in-situ installation titled Avant de partir, je voulais te dire. The work, which toured agricultural fairs in Quebec, addresses psychological distress in agricultural communities. Since then, Justin has become passionate about subjects affecting this sector and continues his investigations into local agriculture, primarily dairy production, Quebec’s most important agri-food sector, as well as the pork industry and slaughterhouses. Several new works on these various subjects are currently in preparation.
