As part of her residency at Espace DesPrés in Sutton, the author will meet with various stakeholders from the Brome-Missisquoi forestry sector—forestry engineers, biologists, and citizens committed to protecting this resource. Immersed in her subject, Florence will deepen her writing process.

She will present a first version of her text during a public reading in a convivial happy hour setting: a fragile stage, yet one already open to the world, for a project destined to be presented to audiences in various contexts across Quebec.

Biography

A graduate of the Playwriting program at the National Theatre School, Florence Conant is fascinated by the transition from childhood to adulthood, the female experience, and all types of water bodies.

At the NTS, she created the plays Les zèbres, Ophélie dans l’eau, Entre deux tranches, and La mort des lacs. The latter is being presented in November 2024 at the Monument-National’s Studio Hydro-Québec, directed by Louis-Karl Tremblay.

In 2025, her short plays Cécile and Phyllis à la plage are being presented as staged readings at Théâtre La Licorne as part of the Labos eXplo and the 14th edition of Porte-Voix.

Florence is interested in translation, adaptation, and dramaturgy. In another life, she was a deer.

Approach

Prompted by the Auditor General’s findings on the fragility of forest biodiversity, Le PàP has commissioned young author Florence Conant to turn this subject into theatrical material.

By transforming data into narrative and analysis into emotion, the project seeks to create a work that fosters a dialogue between citizens, artists, and forest territories, landscapes, and imaginaries.

This research and writing process is developed through direct contact with communities, in a spirit of exchange and transformation of collective narratives. The different versions of the text, and eventually the stage production, will be presented to the public in a spirit of open and constant dialogue.
