Podcast – Queer Mycology
Interdisciplinary
Public presentation: Friday 2 October 2026, 5 PM
DesPrés — 57 Principale Nord Street, Sutton, QC
Public presentation
Seth Côté and Mette Ricard, the creators of Amphibie, invite you on Friday, October 2 at 5:00 PM for a reading of an original story blending literary creation, queer ecology, and the fungal imaginary. Weather permitting, we will head out for a walk to discover local mushrooms!
Biography
Shaggy manes, matsutakes, chaga—the entire universe of the fungal kingdom is captivating. Delicious to some, disgusting to others, sometimes slimy, strange, and eminently diverse, surrounded by an aura of danger, mushrooms are nonetheless loved by many queer people who see a bit of themselves in them. During this residency, Mette Ricard and Seth Côté will conduct research and writing for a special episode of the Amphibie podcast dedicated to queer mycology. Combining literary and sound creation, investigation, and interviews, the project will draw on scientific and literary readings, field recordings in natural environments, and a sensitive focus on mushrooms.
Approach
Seth Côté and Mette Ricard are two friends and transdisciplinary artists living in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, the traditional territory of the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation and the Mi’gmaw First Nation. Both rooted within a vibrant artistic community, they seek to create ways to reconnect us to the rest of the living world, through forms of presence, words, and images that empower us. Their respective practices intersect literature, performance art, video creation, and clown arts. Together, since 2022, they have been developing the project Amphibie, a research-creation podcast dedicated to queer ecology. At the intersection of arts and sciences—both social and natural—the project explores how the tools and concepts of queer experiences, knowledge, and theories can transform our relationship with the living world.
