Bioregion is not the name of just another option on the electoral menu, nor a vague trend, nor a pleasant utopia. The term denotes a conceptual framework through which to situate oneself at a moment in history when degrowth—whether already desired by some or effectively imposed and sudden—is evident to all. It is a response to a historical imperative: the reaching of limits. This response can already be championed by an avant-garde and put into practice at different scales.

Biography
Alain Deneault is a professor of philosophy at the Shippagan campus of the Université de Moncton. His essays focus on the ‘bioregion’, the polysemic notion of economy, managerial ideology, and the sovereignty of private powers. Published by Lux Éditeur, his latest books include Faire que ! L’engagement politique à l’ère de l’inouï, L’Économie de la pensée and the paperback reissue of La Médiocratie, Gouvernance et Politiques de l’extrême centre.
