Three curators, three unique approaches, one shared residency: Bénédicte Ramade, Noémie Fortin, and Ivanie Aubin-Malo explore ecology, grief, the body, and living knowledge in a fruitful and interdisciplinary dialogue. During this residency showcase, they will share the status of their research with you in an open and inspiring moment of exchange. Free admission – everyone is welcome!
Biography
Bénédicte Ramade is a French-Canadian art historian, critic, and exhibition curator. Specializing in environmental and ecological art for 25 years, she also teaches and is currently exploring plant perceptions and the extinction of the living world, preparing the exhibition “Panic Room. Pièces de survie” in Montreal for September 2025.
Noémie Fortin is an independent author and curator based in the Eastern Townships. There, she supports artistic, agricultural, and community initiatives focused on caring for the living world. Sensitive to practices rooted in ecofeminist thought, she is interested in art that engages with territories and communities, particularly in rural settings.
Ivanie Aubin-Malo is a Wolastoq and Quebecer choreographer, performer, and curator, winner of the Prix de la danse de Montréal in 2023. She created the interdisciplinary show “Wahsipekuk: Au-delà des montagnes” and founded the MAQAHATINE collective to connect Indigenous movement artists. Based in L’Islet, she is involved in the Wolastoqiyik Atonikek cultural center project and is committed to promoting the richness of Indigenous cultures through her artistic programming.
Approach
Bénédicte Ramade – Thinking and exhibiting eco-anxiety with artists
What place should be given to one’s eco-anxiety as a curator? Should it be hidden or shared? Thinking of the exhibition as a refuge or an amplification zone are paths that Bénédicte will explore with her residency companions, seeking methods that involve listening to birds and the sounds of the living world, whose consoling and anxiolytic virtues are now confirmed by specialists.
Noémie Fortin – Ecological grief and ecologies of mourning
Following the exhibition “d’une poignée de terre, in a handful of soil” — presented in the summer of 2024 by Adélard in five garden-cemeteries in Frelighsburg — I will continue my research on ecological grief. This residency will allow me to explore its ritual and magico-poetic dimensions, in connection with an exhibition planned for Gaspésie in the spring of 2026.
Ivanie Aubin-Malo – Wabanakiyik Artist Residency at Est-Nord-Est
Ivanie Aubin-Malo will use her residency at D’arts et de rêves to design a two-month program for five artists from the Wabanaki Confederacy at Est-Nord-Est. This project aims to increase the visibility of the Wabanaki Confederacy on its ancestral territory, Wolastokuk, by showcasing the richness of their culture. The partnership with Est-Nord-Est is crucial for the realization of this initiative.
