During their residency showcase, the artists invite the public to an exchange regarding their artistic practices and the research conducted during their stay. In what ways do the perspectives of the dragonfly and the turkey vulture awaken an increased awareness of the territory?

Biography

Charles Sagalane is an interdisciplinary writer. His approach and works are part of the development of an artistic and literary structure, the Musée Moi (Me Museum), for which he serves as the jack-of-all-trades. His in situ projects, such as the Survival Library and the Literary Forest, are collaborative laboratories fueled by creative invitations. He has published nine books with La Peuplade publishing house.

Mériol Lehmann is an artist-researcher who primarily works with photography, sound art, and media arts. Holding a Master’s degree in Arts from Université Laval dedicated to a systemic approach to territory, he is now interested in alternative modernities that rethink our relationship with the living world in the context of ecological crises.

Approach

During their residency, Mériol Lehmann and Charles Sagalane will explore Sutton’s forest environment. They aim to experiment with how sound art, photography, and writing converge through varying scales of the territory. From the close-up perspective of the dragonfly, a vision composed of 15,000 facets perceives up to 200 images per second: we are plunged into the realm of infinite detail. As for the turkey vulture, its piercing gaze can soar up to 1,200 meters, overlooking a lofty panorama. For the artists, the goal is to draw inspiration from these two perspectives to reveal a disconcerting continuum emerging from the terrestrial everyday.
