Lorbleu is a creation by Becky Priebe and Nadine Louis, co-directed with Catherine Girard. Through a stage language blending theatre, circus, and clown, the project explores eco-anxiety and what it means to inhabit a world marked by worry, vulnerability, and the desire to care. Original music, composed and performed live by Fabienne Lucet, accompanies this sensitive reflection.
Rooted in the experience of motherhood, the artistic approach questions the tension between the urge to protect and the awareness of a fragile future. How can we transmit confidence, joy, and the desire to live when the horizon seems uncertain? This question runs through the entire creation process, led by a team of artist mothers.
Lorbleu does not seek to articulate an ecological discourse, but to create an experience where emotions become material for play, rhythm, and connection. Composed of gleaned materials, organic textures, and circular forms, the scenography evokes interdependence, the cycles of life, and the power of connection.
Presented as part of the festival, this performance is a work-in-progress from a creative residency at Després, offering a glimpse of the project before its final form.

Biography

Becky Priebe and Nadine Louis, experienced circus artists, combine artistic creation, social engagement, and eco-responsibility, supported by the live music of Fabienne Lucet. As mothers, they infuse Lorbleu with a feminine perspective focused on transmission, ecology, and collaboration among women. With over 50 years of combined experience, they have collaborated with numerous circus and creative companies in Quebec and internationally.

Approach

The artistic approach is rooted in the experience of motherhood, in the tension between the urge to protect and the awareness of a fragile future. How can we transmit confidence, joy, and the desire to live when the horizon is uncertain? This question runs through the creation process: the artistic direction, the musician on stage, and the external perspectives are all provided by artists who are mothers. This shared experience fosters a keen listening to the body, an attention to life, and the search for a sensitive, embodied, and relational stage language.

Lorbleu does not seek to articulate an ecological discourse. It offers an experience where emotions become material for play, rhythm, and connection. The scenography, composed of gleaned materials, organic textures, circular forms, and light, creates an enveloping and shifting universe. The circle becomes a central figure, evoking motherhood, interdependence, and the cycles of life, in a physical poetry of presence and connection.
